Para 25) A National Commission on Status of Women has been in place since July 2000. In March 2012, a new law was enacted to strengthen the Commission and make it more independent.
Para 26) Under the new arrangement, the Chairperson of NCSW will be nominated in consultation with the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly. A Parliamentary Committee, having equal representation from the Treasury and Opposition benches, will confirm the nominee.
