Expressing relevant concerns, the CEDAW recommended that Botswana, inter alia, increase efforts to reduce the incidence of maternal and child mortality, amend section 160 of the Penal Code to decriminalize abortion in all cases, ensure women’s access to high-quality abortion and postabortion care, provide training for health professionals and midwives on gender-sensitive approaches to treating victims of gender-based violence and on the referral of victims to other services and continue its efforts to raise awareness of available contraceptive methods and accessible sexual and reproductive health services.
