[CESCR] was concerned that maternal and infant mortality rates remained high. It recommended improving the standard of care provided to women throughout pregnancy and during childbirth in primary health-care facilities. It also recommended utilizing the technical guidance on the application of a human rights-based approach to reduce preventable maternal mortality and morbidity, ensuring, on the basis of equality between men and women, access to contraceptives, including for adolescents, in particular in rural areas, and developing age-appropriate sexual and reproductive health education programmes for boys and girls.
