Recommendation
The Special Rapporteur on violence against women indicated that a new law on gender-based violence against women could ensure the removal of the inconsistency in place between the age for sexual consent, 16, with that for receiving contraceptive and other health services without requiring parental consent, 18. A new law should ensure that girls aged 16 could receive adequate sexual and reproductive health services without parental consent. CEDAW recommended integrating into the school curriculum, and public awareness-raising campaigns, age-appropriate education on sexual and reproductive health and rights and ensuring that girls from 16 years of age had free and adequate access to contraceptives and sexual and reproductive health services.
