Para 58) In India, registration of birth is a right of every child and is the first step towards establishing his/her legal identity. It is compulsory to report births and deaths to the Registrar of Births and Deaths under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act 1969. All registration of births is done under the Civil Registration System which is a unified process of continuous, permanent, compulsory and universal recording of vital events such as births and characteristics thereof.
