Recommendation
JS2 stated that the Saint Lucia parliament had legalized abortion under specific conditions, including cases of rape, incest, gross foetal abnormality or when the pregnancy was a threat to the life or health of the woman. However, the restrictions relating to abortion which remained in the Criminal Code of Saint Lucia, had resulted in women being unable to access abortion effectively. The result had been the continuation of unsafe abortions and the use of abortifacient medicines which were available on the black market, without prescriptions. [Para 34]
