Despite the requirement in the Electoral Code that 30 per cent of candidates for elected posts should be women, there is no mechanism to ensure that this is actually the case. JS6 demands that a 50 per cent electoral quota for women be written into the Electoral Code. JS6 urges that Panama be called upon to comply with the recommendation of the CEDAW to adopt strategies to increase the number of women involved in decision-making at all levels, especially at the level of municipalities.
