In March 2000, the President signed a decree on implementing State policy for women in the Republic of Azerbaijan, which laid down guidelines for enhancing the role of women in State and public administration. The Cabinet of Ministers adopted a decision on a national plan of action on women's issues on 6 March 2000. The plan of action has a special section covering the prevention of all forms and manifestations of violence against women, trafficking in women and exploitation through prostitution and providing for the implementation of appropriate measures, including prosecution, in accordance with the procedure established by law, of persons guilty of violating women's rights.
