Recommendation
JS6 recommended that the Government prohibit polygamy, or make the written consent of existing wives mandatory for future marriages. It also recommended that the Government abolish the requirement of wali so adult Muslim women have the unrestricted right to choose when and whom to marry. It further recommended that the Government ensure that Muslim men and women have equal rights to divorce. [Para 68]
