Information concerning hundreds of cases of violence and abuse against women during the performance of medical procedures related to their reproductive health without anaesthesia was raised in a joint allegation letter by a group of special procedure mandate holders. Allegations also included physical abuse, humiliation and verbal abuse, compulsory medical procedures or other procedures carried out without full and informed consent, the refusal to give painkilling medication or anaesthesia, and violations of privacy.
